Vi blev mødt af den største gæstfrihed og havde en skøn skøn dag, trods regnen der silede ned.nn| ENG |nJust off Port Vila lies the small island of Ifira, which on Friday was the center of a huge ceremony in connection with the opening of the island´s new Chiefs Nakamal. A Nakamal is a traditional gathering place in Vanuatu culture and is somewhat similar to our town halls. It was clear to see that it was a significant ceremony. The day before, the island was already buzzing with anticipation and preparations were in full swing. Everything and everyone was decorated and both the President of Vanuatu and the Prime Minister participated in the celebration. As part of the ceremony, the President was welcomed with a traditional canoe dance, which was sung, danced and offerings in the form of pigs were given to the most important guests (A pig that size costs approximately 300,000 Vatu or 2,5000 USD). After the ceremony, everyone was treated to a huge feast. We were greeted with the greatest hospitality and had a wonderful day, despite the rain that was pouring down.
